300 flights and 10 ski fields via Christchurch Airport

Australian skiers are welcoming 300 extra winter flights into Christchurch, putting more than ten Canterbury ski fields just one easy flight from home.
This winter sees a 13 per cent increase in flights and seats direct into Christchurch from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to meet increased demand during the ski season.
With more than 300 additional trans-Tasman services than last year during this time, customers can choose from an extra 52,000 seats, including an extra 18,000 seats on Qantas flying direct from Brisbane and almost 25,000 more seats from Sydney.
Christchurch Airport Chief Commercial Officer – Aeronautical, Justin Watson, says Australian skiers love the fact that they can be on top quality Canterbury snow a little over four hours from hopping on their plane.
“There’s more than 10 ski fields within easy reach of Christchurch Airport, with terrain and facilities to cater for every type of skier,” he says.
“Many Aussies love Mt Hutt, with its world class facilities, proximity to Christchurch and free skiing for kids, so now, with more flights, a family holiday in the snow has never been more appealing.
“There are also several fields catering to the more advanced and expert skiers, including backcountry heli skiing. As if that’s not enough, the Cantabrian fields already have snow and have the longest season.”
With Christchurch Airport being home to the majority of the South Island’s rental vehicle fleet, Aussie skiers are already booking flights with rental cars to head to the slopes, along with some of the fields’ earlybird offers.
Wes Nobeilus, Qantas Regional General Manager for New Zealand, Pacific Islands and South America says “Our additional services to Christchurch are good news for families, adventure seekers, and ski enthusiasts preparing to spend holiday time on Canterbury slopes.
“The extra capacity will help meet strong demand for trans-Tasman travel and also provide great connections for customers flying from Europe and Asia.
“We are really pleased to work with Christchurch Airport to provide more options for customers across the Tasman during this busy holiday time.”
